Repulsion is the oldest grindcore band in the USA . The band recorded the first Grindcore album, but officially released it later. Only the British band Napalm Death is two years older. Repulsion are also considered to be the trailblazers for the later Deathgrind.
history
Repulsion was founded in 1984 under the name "Tempter" by Matt Olivo and Scott Carlsson in Flint, Michigan . In the same year the name changed twice. At first the band called itself "Ultra Violence" before they released the first demo in 1984 under the name "Genocide". In 1985, Carlsson and Olivo briefly switched to the band Death after Chuck Schuldiner kicked Rick Rozz and Kam Lee out of incompetence. In 1986 the band renamed itself "Repulsion". A demo was released that year, which later went down in history as the first Grindcore album. The album Horrified was originally released as a demo recording under the name Slaughter of the Innocent . The re-release as an album was carried out by the Earache Records sub -label Necrosis, which belonged to band members of Carcass . However, after the release of Horrified , the band got no contract and broke up in 1993. After the interest on the part of the fans continued ten years later, Repulsion reunited in 2003.
Aaron Freeman and Matt Olivo also played in the band Dejecta in the 1990s.
