Goregrind

The musical genre Goregrind (from Gore and Grindcore ) is a sub-genre of Grindcore with clear influences from Death Metal , the origin of which is not clear from a musicological point of view. It remains controversial whether the Goregrind comes primarily from Grindcore or Death Metal, as there are parallels to both styles of hard and aggressive metal . There is much to be said for applying the old term "Gore-Grind Death Metal" to this sub-genre and assuming a mix of two styles that can hardly be determined.

The main criteria of the Goregrind are the special singing techniques. They range from very low, and often additionally distorted grunting ( growling ) to gurgle ( guttural singing ) obtained by so-called shifter pitch devices is generated to the song to distort beyond recognition, whereby such but partly also from pure Death -Metal bands are used (example: Fleshcrawl ). The result of the distorted singing is usually a dehumanized sounding voice that ranges from animal grunts to bubbling (which is why this singing is sometimes referred to as "frog noise"). A special feature is the undistorted guttural singing, which is generated by sucking in air while the glottis are closed at the same time ( pig squeals ) (example: Jig-Ai from the Czech Republic ) - the voice sounds particularly alienated and dehumanized by the rubbing or bubbling noise. The singing is to be seen as the main characteristic of this sub-genre, since other elements ( blastbeats , “ groove parts”, very high-pitched screeching vocals) appear very well in death metal as well as in grindcore. Sometimes a drum machine is also used for the percussion . Especially nowadays, technological advances mean that more and more one-man projects are emerging, as drum computers and guitar programs deliver very good results.

The texts mostly deal with topics from horror , in particular gore and cannibal films as well as scenarios about violence and cruelty in the coexistence of people. Often in Goregrind a lot of emphasis is placed on groove, expressed, among other things, by extremely slow passages, so-called mosh parts (e.g. Meatknife). However, blast beats are also used very often. Goregrind is extremely closely related to the Porngrind , the transition is fluid and the only distinction can be made in that the Porngrind's texts deal with pornographic content. However, content that deals with violence is often included, which is why it is difficult to differentiate between them.

In general, it can be said that there are a large number of sub-categories, but the differences are usually only minor and are practically not discernible for laypeople anyway. In general, as in almost all musical sub-genres, it can be observed that many bands bring their own varieties to life, which differ only in small details or even in the band image (example: Exhumed with the album title “Gore -Metal ").

The Cybergrind is also closely related to the Goregrind , in which additional electronic means are used to change the sound.
