Cenotaph (from Kenotaph , ancient Greek κενοτάφιον kenotáphion 'empty grave') is a Death Metal or Deathgrind / Goregrind band from Ankara in Turkey . Not to be confused with the numerous other bands of the same name, such as Cenotaph from Mexico.

history

Cenotaph 1996

The band was formed in 1994. After their demo Life Immortal , Cenotaph got a contract with the Turkish music label Hammer Müzik, which also released their debut album Voluptuously Minced . With this album the band was able to attract international attention. On their second album, Cenotaph changed the musical direction slightly, so there are more slam death metal influences. The album was a step up from its strong predecessor and Cenotaph received an offer for a record deal with the American label United Guttural. The band is currently under contract with Unmatched Brutality Records. Cenotaph also had some successes live in the past, for example at the Maryland Deathfest in the USA and at the German festival Fuck the Commerce .

Projects

An extreme metal scene of their own has formed around the members of the band in Ankara. The Cetin brothers still play in the Goregrind band Drain of Impurity and Basar Cetin still plays in the band Cidesphere , which plays technical death metal. The former member Cem Devrim Dursun also still plays with Witchtrap, the oldest black metal band in Turkey, and in the thrash metal band Blaster. The group's former drummer, Cem Devrim Dursun, was also part of the Turkish band Suicide, considered one of the first death metal bands in Turkey.
