Tramea carolina is a dragonfly - kind of genre tramea of the subfamily Panta Linae . The species is widespread mainly in southern Canada and in the eastern parts of the USA as far as Texas .

Construction of the Imago

The T. carolina reaches a length of 45 to 54 millimeters, of which 30 to 36 millimeters are on the abdomen . The animal is primarily red. Initially the face is pale but turns red with age. The upper part of the head, including the vertex , on the other hand, becomes metallic purple. The thorax is reddish brown and has no other markings. The hind wings reach a length of 41 to 46 millimeters. Furthermore, the hind wing has an almost opaque red-brown band that extends to the outer end of the anal loop . The veins in this area as well as those along the anterior wing margins are also red. The legs are brown at the base and then darker. The abdomen is brown-red in young animals, in adults it turns bright red. Segments eight and nine are mostly black.
