Ufuk Talay (born March 26, 1976 in Sydney , Australia ) is a former Turkish-Australian soccer player and current coach. In addition to Australian citizenship, he also has Turkish citizenship, which is why he did not take up any place in the foreign contingent while working for Turkish clubs.

Career

Marconi Stallions FC

Talay began his career at Marconi Stallions FC , who at that time still played in the NSL until the league was replaced by the A-League . He was initially committed as a substitute for Steve Corica , but was able to establish himself as a regular player. He made his debut late in the 1992/93 season when there were only six games left to play. Talay played on the grid and scored one goal in all six subsequent games. He played three more years as an important regular player for the club until he moved to Galatasaray Istanbul in 1995.

Turkey

At the beginning of the 1995/96 season Talay was committed by the Turkish record champions Galatasaray Istanbul . Most of the time, however, it was awarded, which is why it was only used in 28 games. Talay was awarded to first and second division clubs in the Turkish league such as Medical Park Antalyaspor , Bursaspor and Karabükspor , and then to the then French second division Olympique Nîmes . In 2002 he was signed by Gaziantepspor and from there he moved to Mersin Idmanyurdu , which was his last stop in Turkey.

Sydney FC

As the sixteenth transfer of the football club Sydney FC in the 2005/06 season, he played again with his ex-team-mates from Marconi Stallions FC Steve Corica and Clint Bolton .

His first season with Sydney FC ended prematurely with a knee injury. After recovering from his injury by the 2006/07 season, he spent some time on the bench as new head coach Terry Butcher preferred a central teamwork between the two players Terry McFlynn and Mark Milligan . The injury to other players gave Talay the chance to be included in the starting line-up again, which he took advantage of and remained an important regular for the team for the rest of the season.

In 2007 Sydney FC qualified for the AFC Champions League . Talay played in all the games you play in the tournament, scoring one goal each against Shanghai Shenhua and Urawa Red Diamonds . In the second leg against Shanghai Shenhua, he missed a penalty and the game ended goalless.

After the 2007/08 season, in which he had only missed one game due to a yellow card suspension, he did not renew his contract with Sydney FC and followed his ex-team-mate Mark Rudan to Japan to the Japanese second division Avispa Fukuoka .

Time in Japan and return to Australia

Talay was the third Australian in the club's squad alongside Mark Rudan and Joel Griffiths , the club's newcomer from Newcastle United . The season started well for Talay. He scored three goals in the first five games but failed to score in the following 32 games. After only one season at Avispa Fukuoka, he moved back to Australia to North Queensland Fury , where he scored three goals in 33 league games. Two years later he moved to Sydney United , where he ended his career as a player.
