Clint Brian Bolton (born August 22, 1975 in Bundaberg , Queensland ) is an Australian football player . The goalkeeper won four Australian league titles, including two in the National Soccer League (NSL), in which he played a total of 300 league games, and two with Sydney FC in the successor league A-League .
Club career
NSL
Bolton began his career in 1993 in the NSL with the Brisbane Strikers . He made 178 league appearances in his seven years with Brisbane and became Australian champions in 1997 with the club. In 2000 he signed the league competitor Sydney Olympic with which he could repeat this success in 2002. A year later he was with Olympic in the final of the Australian championship, but lost to Perth Glory . He then moved to Parramatta Power , with whom he also reached the championship finals, but again failed to Perth Glory. This final was also the last game of the NSL, which was then dissolved. In total, Bolton played 300 games in the NSL. In order to keep fit, Bolton first switched to Fraser Park, and some time later to the APIA Leichhardt Tigers .
A-League
With the establishment of the professional league A-League , Bolton signed a contract with Sydney FC in 2005 . Even before the start of the season he was able to celebrate his first success with his new club by winning the OFC Champions Cup . The season was also successful. In the championship final of the premier season they defeated the Central Coast Mariners 1-0, and by winning the Champions Cup they were eligible to start at the 2005 FIFA Club World Cup , in which they finished 5th. Bolton was voted "Player of the Year" by the team at the end of the season. As champions, after the Australian Football Association had moved to the Asia zone, they were also eligible to compete in the 2007 AFC Champions League , where they narrowly failed in the group stage due to the eventual winner Urawa Red Diamonds . On January 1, 2007 Bolton stayed in the fifth league game in a row without conceding, setting a new league record. In the three seasons after winning the title there were no successes, only in the 2009/10 season they moved under the new coach Vítězslav Lavička again in the Grand Final and there defeated rivals Melbourne Victory on penalties. For Bolton, the final was also his last competitive game for Sydney, as he moved to the newly created team Melbourne Heart for the 2010/11 season. For Melbourne he was Melbourne goalkeeper for the first two seasons and won the club's internal player of the year award twice. At the turn of the year 2012/2013 he lost his regular place after a series of defeats to Andrew Redmayne and received no new contract offer at the end of the season.
