Nathan Joel Burns (born May 7, 1988 in Blayney ) is an Australian football player .

Club career

Burns already played in the 2004/05 season for the Parramatta Eagles in the New South Wales Premier League and after some time at the Australian Institute of Sport signed a professional contract with the A-League club Adelaide United for the 2006/07 season . At Adelaide he developed into a top performer in his first season, became the top scorer with six goals together with the Brazilian veteran Fernando Rech and reached the championship final with the team, in which they lost 6-0 to Melbourne Victory after an early dismissal .

After another season at Adelaide, Burns, who is considered one of the greatest Australian talents, moved to the Greek first division club AEK Athens in the summer of 2008 , but did not find his way there and only came on for five short appearances towards the end of the season. For the 2009/10 season AEK loaned him to the second division AO Kerkyra , where he should gain more match practice. In the 2010/11 season he won the national cup with Athens.

In January 2012 he joined the Korean first division club Incheon United . In July 2013 it was loaned to Newcastle United Jets until January of the next year .

On June 25, 2014 he signed a two-year contract with New Zealand A-League participant Wellington Phoenix . In his first season 2014/15 he was the best shooter of his team with 13 hits and received the Johnny Warren Medal for the best player of the season at the end of the season. After the season, however, he moved to the Japanese first division club FC Tokyo . After two seasons, however, he returned to Wellington Phoenix.

National team

Burns took part in the U-17 World Cup in Peru in 2005 with the Australian U-17 selection and formed the storm duo together with Robbie Kruse during the preliminary round . In 2006 he failed with the Young Socceroos , the Australian U-20 national team , in the quarter-finals of the U-19 Asian Cup and thus missed qualifying for the 2007 Junior World Cup .

Between 2007 and 2008 Burns was a regular member of the Australian Olympic team (U-23), but surprisingly, like his former teammate at Adelaide, Bruce Djite , he was not included in the team of coach Graham Arnold for the 2008 Olympic soccer tournament in China . The offensive player made his international debut for the Australian senior team in a friendly against Singapore in June 2007 when he came on for Mark Viduka shortly before the end of the game .

In 2015 he took part in the Asian Cup with the national team. In 2016 he played the last of his 24 internationals so far.
