Paolo "Paul" Vincenzo Trimboli (born February 25, 1969 in Melbourne ) is a former Australian football player of Italian origin, who acted on the position of a striker . He spent most of his career with South Melbourne FC .

Career

Club career

Trimboli began his career with Brighton SC from Brighton, Victoria . He then moved to Xavier College and in 1986 to the Australian Institute of Sport . In 1987 a change to Sunshine George Cross followed . In the Georgies he came in 22 games on four hits. Just a year later, Trimboli transferred to South Melbourne FC in what was then Australia's top division, the National Soccer League . For the club from the second largest city on the Australian continent, he completed 419 games between 1988 and the end of his career in 2004, scoring 108 goals. With the club he won the Australian championship in the 1990/91, 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons. In 1999 they won the continental club competition and qualified for the 2000 FIFA Club World Cup . There they met Manchester United , Vasco da Gama and Necaxa in the preliminary round .

International

Trimboli gained experience in the Australian U16 team, with which he took part in the 1985 U-16 World Cup in China, and in the U20 team in his home country, which he represented at the 1987 Junior World Cup in Chile. In total, he came to 40 missions for the Australian national football team , for which he scored 13 goals. He was also able to celebrate some successes with the national team. With Australia he won the OFC Nations Cup in 1996 and finished second behind Brazil in the 1997 Confederations Cup .

Career as a football commentator

After his active career as a football player, Trimboli started a career as a football commentator . In 2006 he was a commentator on the sports broadcaster SEN 1116 for which he commented on games in the A-League and the Victorian Premier League . Trimboli is also an advertising medium for Puma AG . He also announced that he did not want to start a coaching career, but rather to concentrate on other opportunities. Trimboli is currently a sports commentator for the Australian broadcaster Fox Sports .
