biography

Schuler, who runs a farm in his home village and is involved in several associations, was able to move into the Plaus community committee in 1982 and became mayor in 1985. In 2005 he was elected President of the South Tyrolean Association of Municipalities. In 2008, Schuler was able to win a mandate for the state parliament and, at the same time, the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol on the SVP list with 17,222 preferential votes .

In June 2012, as part of a government reshuffle at the beginning of 2013, the SVP decided to elect Schuler as Hans Berger's successor to the regional council. However, after surprisingly not receiving the required majority in the first ballot on January 23, 2013, Schuler decided not to join the South Tyrolean government despite the successful second ballot.

In the state elections in 2013 , Schuler was able to unite the second most preferential votes behind top candidate Arno Kompatscher with 31,319 and to move into the state parliament again. As a result, he was elected to the state government and entrusted in the Kompatscher I cabinet with the departments of agriculture and forestry, civil protection and municipalities.

In the 2018 state elections , Schuler won a third seat with 19,799 preferential votes. In the Kompatscher II cabinet , he then took over the departments of agriculture and forestry, tourism and civil protection and will also act as the first deputy governor until August 18, 2020.
