Andrew "Andy" Barron (born December 24, 1980 in Invercargill ) is a New Zealand soccer player .

Career

Between 2000 and 2004, Barron studied in the United States at William Carey University and played on the local soccer team ("Crusaders") in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference , a division organized in the NAIA . Barron is to this day (as of 2009) the second best scorer in the history of the team and in 2007 was accepted into the newly created Wall of Fame of the Crusaders with nine other people .

After completing his studies, he played for six months in Northern Ireland with Lisburn Distillery before returning to New Zealand and subsequently playing for Canterbury United and Team Wellington . In 2008 he went back to the USA and played for one season with the Minnesota Thunder in the USL First Division . After returning to New Zealand, he rejoined Team Wellington. He ended his career in August 2010.

On October 3, 2013, he announced his comeback at the Samoan champions Kiwi SC , where he was appointed team captain a short time later by coach Martin Tamasese . He helped his team to qualify for the OFC Champions League for the first time on October 19, 2013 at the OCL Preliminary Tournament in American Samoa .

National team

Barron made his debut for the New Zealand national team in a series of friendly matches against Malaysia in February 2006 . After he was last used against Wales in 2007, national coach Ricki Herbert nominated him in May 2009 for the Confederations Cup in South Africa the following month.
