Waitakere United is a football club based in Waitakere City , New Zealand . It was founded in 2004 and has played in New Zealand's top soccer league, the New Zealand Football Championship , ever since . The home ground for the 2007-08 season games is Fred Taylor Park .
history
The association was founded in 2004 as a special franchise . It was made up of 12 associations based in the area from Mount Albert to the Kaipara District .
2004/05 and 2006/07 they finished second in the domestic league. The club won the 2007 OFC Champions League and therefore took part in qualifying for the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup. The club was subsequently invited to the tournament because the representative from Vanuatu had canceled participation before the start of the tournament.
In the subsequent qualification for the FIFA Club World Cup, however, they were eliminated in the first round by a 1: 3 against Sepahan Isfahan .
In the seasons 2007/08, 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 Waitakere was able to win the New Zealand championship.
