Shannon Michael Cole (born August 4, 1985 in Sydney ) is an Australian football player in the service of the Western Sydney Wanderers .

Career

Cole played for a long time at an amateur level, including in New Zealand at Waitakere United and at the age of 19 at a college in Michigan, USA. He also had a one-month trial training session at the English club Doncaster Rovers and was also at Maccabi Netanja in Israel.

In 2007 he moved within the NSW Premier League , the top division of the state of New South Wales , from the Parramatta Eagles to league rivals Sydney Olympic and played there for two years. In 2008 he was signed by the A-League club Sydney FC after he had already played for Sydney in 2007 during the Pre-Season Cup. He quickly established himself as a regular at Sydney and is considered one of the most dangerous corner kickers and free kickers in the league. It can be used variably in the full-back positions and in the midfield, which is of particular importance due to the limited squad sizes due to the salary cap . In the 2009/10 season Cole won his first championship title with Sydney, in the penalty shootout of the final, which was won 4-2 against Melbourne Victory , Cole missed his penalty as the only Sydney player.

In the summer of 2012, he switched to the newly founded Western Sydney Wanderers club within the league .

In October 2008, coach Pim Verbeek Cole first invited the Australian national team , but did not choose him from the 35-man squad for the subsequent World Cup qualifier against Qatar. He finally made his international debut on March 3, 2010 in the decisive Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia, when the Australian team qualified for the finals with a 1-0 win.
