Commins Menapi (born September 18, 1977 - November 18, 2017 in Honiara ) was a Solomonic football player and coach. Menapi was one of the most famous players in the Solomon Islands.

Career

The striker played for Marist FC in his home country from 1998 to 1999, before moving to Nelson Suburbs in New Zealand in 1999 . From 2000 to 2004 he was under contract with Sydney United and played in the Australian A-League 66 times, scoring 19 goals, in 2005 he played for St. George Saints and then moved to YoungHeart Manawatu for a year . From 2007 to 2008 he played at Waitakere United . In the championship finals of the New Zealand Football Championship 2006/07 he scored a goal in the 3-2 defeat by Auckland City FC , during the game he was the first player to be sent off in a final of the New Zealand Football Championship. A little later he won the 2007 OFC Champions League with Waitakere , in the final first leg he scored his team's goal in the 1: 2 defeat. A year later they managed to defend the continental title and they were also victorious in the New Zealand championship with a 2-0 final win against Team Wellington .

Menapi made his debut for the Solomon Islands national football team in 2000. He was a member of the most successful national team in the Solomon Islands, which entered the play-off round against Australia for the first time in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup . He also scored both goals in the historic 2-2 draw against Australia. In total, Menapi made 37 international appearances and scored 34 goals. This makes him the record scorer in his country.

After the end of his active career, he began his coaching career in 2014 at Western United , which he supervised until his death.

Menapi died in November 2017 and was buried in Temotu .
