Gregory Alexander "Greg" Draper (born August 13, 1989 in Taunton , England ) is a New Zealand soccer player .
Career
Born in Taunton, England, Draper moved to New Zealand with his family at the age of 12. Between 2005 and 2007 he played for Canterbury United in the New Zealand Football Championship . At the end of July 2007 he was signed as one of three mandatory under 20-year-olds from the newly formed A-League club Wellington Phoenix . After he came to two league appearances in the first season, he stayed in his second season with Phoenix without a competitive game and did not receive a new contract at the end of the season.
Draper subsequently played for the Melbourne Knights in the Victorian Premier League and the 2009/10 season for Team Wellington in the New Zealand Football Championship . In the summer of 2010 he moved to England in the Conference South to Basingstoke Town , where he scored 15 goals in the 2010/11 season. This sparked interest from the Welsh professional club The New Saints FC , whose offer he accepted in June 2011 and moved to the Welsh Premier League . He scored 22 league goals for The New Saints in his first season when the club not only won the championship but also the cup, in which he also contributed a goal to the 2-0 final win against Cefn Druids AFC .
Draper has gone through all of New Zealand's junior selections. With the U-20 he took part in the 2007 Junior World Championship in Canada at the age of 17 and was used in all three games in the preliminary round. In 2008 he was in the U-23 squad for the Olympic soccer tournament in China and came to two partial appearances. On November 19, 2008 he made his debut in the senior team of New Zealand in the World Cup qualifier against the Fiji Islands . In March 2012, he took part with the New Zealand U-23 selection in the qualifying tournament for the 2012 Olympic Games and scored three goals over the course of the tournament, including the 1-0 winner in the final against Fiji .
