Jeremy Russell Brockie (born October 7, 1987 in Christchurch ) is a New Zealand soccer player . The offensive player has been under contract with the South African first division club Mamelodi Sundowns since 2018 .

Club career

Brockie came to Canterbury United via the Nelson Suburbs in 2004 , for which he came to 15 missions in the inaugural season of the New Zealand Football Championship at the age of 16. In 2005 he moved to the New Zealand A-League representative , New Zealand Knights , and was one of the few positive surprises of the club, who ended the season as a beaten bottom of the table. After the end of the season Brockie announced his move to league champions Sydney FC , but because of the long league break, he initially played a few games for Canterbury United. At Sydney, the young talent did not succeed in asserting himself in the team and therefore asked, for private reasons, among other things, to terminate his contract, which was dated 2008, after a year. This request was granted by the club management and Brockie returned to New Zealand to Hawke's Bay United . In 2008 he moved to Team Wellington within the league .

At the end of the year he signed a contract with the newly formed A-League team North Queensland Fury for the 2009/10 season . At Fury, he missed the season opener due to an injury drawn in the pre-season and only made his debut on matchday 11. After 14 appearances in a row, the season ended prematurely for him because of a broken leg. At the end of the season he left the club and signed a two-year contract with league rivals Newcastle United Jets . After two years he moved to Wellington Phoenix . In 2013 he played for six months on loan at the Canadian club Toronto FC .

At the beginning of 2015 he moved to South Africa to first division club SuperSport United and three years later to the Mamelodi Sundowns . For the 2019/20 season he was awarded to Maritzburg United .

National team

Brockie made his senior team debut in New Zealand on February 19, 2006 in a friendly against Malaysia.

In 2007 he played with the U-20 national team at the Junior World Cup in Canada and was used in all three games over the full season in the preliminary rounds. In 2008 he took part with the Olympic team as a regular player in the Olympic soccer tournament in China and scored the only New Zealand goal in the course of the tournament.

In the summer of 2009 he was part of New Zealand's squad at the Confederations Cup in South Africa, and a year later he took part in the World Cup in South Africa with New Zealand . In the preliminary round, when New Zealand drew against Slovakia, Italy and Paraguay, he only came to an eleven-minute mission in the last group game against Paraguay. During the tournament, national coach Ricki Herbert mainly relied on Shane Smeltz , Rory Fallon and Chris Killen in attack .
