The heart-bearing lady's slipper ( Cypripedium cordigerum ) is a species of the genus Cypripedium in the orchid family (Orchidaceae).

features

The heart-bearing lady's slipper is a perennial plant with a short, thick rhizome that reaches heights of 22 to 50, rarely 60 centimeters. The two to five leaves are bare, ciliate towards the base on the edge and measure 8 to 18 × 3.5 to 10.5 centimeters. They are oval to broadly oval in shape and have a pointed end. Stems, pedicels and ovaries are hairy with glands. The flowers appear individually, rarely two on a plant, they measure 9 to 10 centimeters in diameter. The outer and inner tepals are greenish or light green. The inner tepals are flat and not twisted. The lip measures 2.5 to 3.5 centimeters, with a small opening. The staminodium is elongated, yellow with red spots.

Flowering time is from July to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The heart-bearing lady's slipper comes from Pakistan, North India, Nepal, Bhutan, South Tibet and Southwest China in damp and shady forests, e.g. from pine trees, in pea and juniper bushes and in meadows, on south-sloping slopes at altitudes of 2100 up to 4000 meters ahead.
