history
The USV Jena was founded on April 13, 1949 in the cafeteria of the Jena University as a company sports association of around 100 university students. The HSG started with boxing, soccer, gymnastics, handball, athletics, chess, swimming, tennis, table tennis, gymnastics, water sports and winter sports. After the Second World War , sports operations were resumed in 1946. With the help of athletes from the company sports association "Ernst Abbe" and later "Schott", the university sports facilities were made usable again. With the political turning point in 1990, the HSG became USV Jena. From the mid-1990s, massive investments were made in maintaining and building new sports facilities.

Women's soccer at the UPS
At the beginning of the 1980s, a soccer class for female students was formed for the first time at the sports faculty of the University of Jena, initially only intended to arouse interest in soccer. However, the sports group developed very well and after a two-year training phase it was possible to take part in the district championship for the first time. As a result, the club managed to qualify several times for the final round for the GDR championship title. After German reunification in 1991, they immediately reached 1st place in the Oberliga Nordost, which entitles them to promotion to the 1st Bundesliga. After the direct relegation, the consolidation in the Regionalliga Ost followed. To ensure greater independence, the women's soccer department was transferred to the newly founded FF USV Jena club in 2003 . This is still a legal department of the USV Jena today.
