Elizabeth Doon Hassett (born August 4, 1990 in Titrangi ) is a New Zealand national soccer player .

Career

Hassett began her football career at the age of 12 with Green Bay Titrangi and after its bankruptcy joined the successor club Bay Olympic SC, where she played in boys' teams. After three years she moved to the all-women team of Three Kings United. In 2006 she went to Radford College in Canberra , Australia for a year , before returning to Auckland in 2007, where she received a scholarship at Avondale College. In the spring of 2009, Hassett began her 1V studies at the University of California, Berkeley , where she is currently on the Golden Bears Women Soccer team. On January 31, 2013 Hassett signed with the German 2nd Bundesliga club SC Sand . After scoring eleven goals in ten games for SC Sand in the second half of 2013, she moved to English first division club Manchester City , with whom she won the league cup in 2014. In 2015 Hassett played for the Norwegian club Amazon Grimstad FK .

During the 2015/16 winter break, she and Mona Lohmann moved from the Norwegian club Amazon Grimstad FK to the Allianz Women's Bundesliga club Werder Bremen . After ten games in the second half of the season for Werder Bremen in the women's Bundesliga and Werder's relegation, Hassett moved to the Eredivisie at AFC Ajax Amsterdam . In Amsterdam she made 20 appearances, scored two goals and helped Ajax win their first championship in women's football and win the cup. At the end of the season she moved to Iceland where she played in the second half of the season of Úrvalsdeild kvenna for KR Reykjavík . As table eight, KR just avoided relegation. In 2018, she was used in all 18 games of the season, not missing a minute and scored a goal. In terms of the table, KR could not improve, but reached the cup final, where they lost 3-1 to local rivals Valur .

International

The midfielder made her debut in the New Zealand senior team on June 16, 2008 against Argentina at the age of 17 . Two days later she was substituted on for the game against Canada . After that, however, she had to wait for her third international match until January of the next year.

For her home country, Hassett took part in the 2008 U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile in November 2008 . Although the New Zealanders were able to win against the hosts 4: 3 and against England 1: 1, but since they lost the first game against Nigeria 3: 2, they were eliminated as third in the group. Hassett was used in the three games.

At the four-nation tournament in China , she started against the hosts for the first time and was a regular in 2009. It was only not used in the last game of the year. In 2010 she was only used in the first five games of the year and was not always in the starting line-up. She played again for the U-20s and took part in her second U-20 World Cup in Germany in July 2010 , but failed there with her team in the preliminary round.

It was not taken into account for the 2010 Oceania Women's Soccer Championship in October and was only reinstated in the last game of the year.

In 2011, she was not used in the last test match before the World Cup and was appointed to the squad for the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany on June 23, 2011 . At the 2011 World Cup , she was used in the three group matches after which New Zealand was eliminated, but scored the first point in a World Cup game in a 2-2 win against Mexico .

In 2012, she was used in all games and qualified with her team in the spring with two wins against Papua New Guinea (7-0 and 8-0) for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . At the Olympics, they lost the first two games against the hosts and Brazil just 1-0 and then won 3-1 against newcomer Cameroon . They reached the quarter-finals for the first time at a tournament outside of Oceania, but lost there against the eventual gold medalist USA 2-0.

In 2013, in a year without major tournaments, it was used in all games as well as in 2014, where it won its first tournament with the 2014 Oceania Women's Soccer Championship. The New Zealanders qualified for the 2015 World Cup . At the World Cup, they lost the opening game against World Cup newcomers Netherlands 1-0, which was the first time a World Cup newcomer was able to win their first World Cup game. Against Canada and China, two draws were achieved, but the New Zealanders were eliminated from the relatively even group as the best group bottom.

On January 23, 2016, Hassett qualified with the All Whites by beating Papua New Guinea 7-1 for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , since Papua New Guinea did not play for the second leg three days later. In March 2016, the New Zealanders took part in the Algarve Cup for the only time so far , where they lost the game for third place on penalties against Iceland .

She was then also included in the roster for the Olympic Games. In the games they lost against defending champions USA and France with 0: 2 and 0: 3. The 1-0 win against Colombia made them third, but they were eliminated as the worst group third.

On September 15, 2017, she made her 100th international match in the 3-1 defeat against the USA, along with Annalie Longo and the US-American Kelley O'Hara - the only known game in which three players made their 100th international match.

She was the best player at the 2018 Oceania Women's Soccer Championship and helped defend the title with five goals. As tournament winners, the New Zealanders qualified for the 2019 World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games .

In spring 2019 she was in the starting line-up for the three games at the Cup of Nations .

On April 29, she was nominated for the World Cup in France . At the World Cup, she was used in the three group matches after which the Ferns were eliminated.

She took part in various snowboarding events in her home country and in September 2007 she won first place in the boardercross in Turoa.
