The SV Zweckel is a football club from the Gladbeck district of Zweckel founded in 1923 . The club colors are black and green.
history
In 1923 the Spielverein Zweckel was founded. Two years later, the athletics department was added to the club. In 1929, SV Zweckel had to form an overall club against its will with the clubs BV Rentfort, SuS Gladbeck and SpVg Schwarz / Gelb Gladbeck. At this time, the first football team played in the top division. Only three years after the merger, the club was re-established and it started in the lowest division. After two ascents in a row, the Second World War broke out and gaming operations came to a standstill in 1938. When the game was resumed in 1943 and the next promotion was achieved, the game had to pause again due to the war. With the order that all clubs in the British occupation zone should be dissolved, game operations came to a halt again. A year later, the order was lifted and a new association could take place.
The SV Zweckel started again in the district class after the new formation in 1949 . After three city championships in a row, the club won promotion to the Landesliga Westfalen in 1953 . In the following year, the club was able to reach fifth place as a newcomer and beat the later state league champion TSV Marl-Hüls in both games. In the second season, the club rose again from the district class. It was not until 1965 that the team from the district class rose again to the state league and had to be relegated again after three years. In the 1968/69 season the direct promotion was achieved and you could stay in the national league until the 1975/76 season.
Since the promotion in 2009, the first soccer team played again in the Landesliga Westfalen, where they established themselves as a newcomer in the first two years with places three & four. Under the then coach Günter Appelt, he was promoted to the Westphalia League in 2012 , which was followed a year later by the march into the Oberliga Westfalen . There the team narrowly escaped relegation two years in a row. In the 2014/15 season , the SVZ was penultimate after a 3-1 victory over SC Roland Beckum and the simultaneous 2-4 defeat of competitor Westfalia Herne at ASC 09 Dortmund . The SV Zweckel remained in the top division because VfB Hüls voluntarily withdrew its team into the district league. A year later, the team was relegated from bottom of the table and was passed through to the state league in the following 2016/17 Westphalia league season.
On October 1, 2017, the 1st team of SV Zweckel was able to win a championship game again after more than a year when the team won 3-2 at Schwarz-Weiß Wattenscheid 08. The last victory in a championship game came from the 6th matchday of the Westphalia league season 2016/17, when they won the home game against Preußen Münster II on September 18, 2016 3-0. In the 2017/18 national league season, after 32 matchdays with 13 points and a goal difference of 29: 113, they were bottom of the table and the next relegation to the district league took place .
Stadion
In 1932 the city bought the sports facility Kampfbahn Dorstener Straße from the mining company Hibernia AG , which was the venue for the home games until 2016. The home games have been played in the Gladbeck stadium since the 2016/17 season .
