The SC Roland Beckum (officially: Sportclub Roland 1962 eV ) is a football club from Beckum in the Warendorf district . The first team played in the Oberliga Westfalen from 2012 to 2017 .

history

The association was founded on June 20, 1962. For decades, the club only played at the district level and could only compete in the district league from 1972 to 1975 and in the 1988/89 season. In 1994 SC Roland was relegated to the district league B and only returned four years later to the Beckum district upper house. The sporting boom began in the mid-2000s. Thanks to the commitment of the personnel service provider Olaf Hansen, the team was able to be strengthened and in 2007 reached the championship of the district league A. After the runner-up in 2009 behind VfL Wolbeck , the promotion to the state league followed a year later . There the team met SpVg Beckum , which had previously been the local sporting figurehead for decades.

As champions, SC Roland made it through to the Westfalenliga 1 in 2011 . During the second half of the season, the club was targeted by tax investigators because some players are said to have collected black money . In 2012 the team qualified fourth in the table for the re-introduced Oberliga Westfalen, in which they finished eleventh as a newcomer in the 2012/13 season . In the following seasons, the club established itself in the major league and reached fourth place in 2014/15 and 2015/16 . The Beckum team then had to relegate back to the Westfalenliga in 2017 due to the worse goal difference compared to ASC 09 Dortmund , where SC Roland was only two points ahead of the first relegation place in the 2017/18 season.

In the following two seasons, the team missed the intended return to the league. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, the club attracted attention with major new signings and temporarily took the lead in October. Nevertheless, on December 5, 2019, the club's management announced the withdrawal of the team at the end of the season and a new start in the district league A. Reasons for the withdrawal were stagnating spectator numbers, a lack of voluntary helpers and the lack of youth work.
