Friedhelm Strzelczyk (born November 26, 1947 - January 2009 ) was a German football player. From 1966 to 1973, the offensive player played a total of 198 league games in the Bundesliga (11/0) and the West Regional Football League , scoring 26 goals.

career

The technically outstanding youth player of Sportfreunde Gladbeck made his debut on November 7, 1965 in the youth national team of the DFB. At the international match in Belgrade against Yugoslavia, he was substituted in for Karl-Heinz Handschuh from Stuttgart in the second half of the game . This was followed by three more appearances in April against Switzerland, France and Italy, before he took part in the UEFA youth tournament in Yugoslavia in May 1966 with the DFB-Elf . With his teammates Norbert Nigbur , Egon Köhnen , David Scheu , Horst Köppel , Karl-Heinz Handschuh, Rainer Budde , Heinz Flohe and Hans-Jürgen Hellfritz , he failed in the group phase due to competition from Spain, Scotland and the Netherlands. His last appearance in the youth national team was on June 29, 1966 in the goalless 0-0 draw in Kassel against Sweden, where he and Heinz Flohe formed the left wing. For the 1966/67 season, the attacker, who could only see with one eye, got a contract with the southern German Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC .

In addition to the young talent from Gladbeck, four experienced players, Lars Granström , Christian Müller , Dragoslav Šekularac and Jürgen Weidlandt , came to the blue and white team from the Wildpark Stadium . Strzelczyk made his Bundesliga debut on the second game day, August 27, 1966. In front of 36,000 spectators there was a 1-1 home draw against Hamburger SV. Horst-Dieter Berking , Christian Müller and Strzelczyk were the storm peaks of the KSC . His opponent at HSV was their right full-back Helmut Sandmann . At the end of the round, KSC took 13th place in the table and the talent from Gladbeck had completed eleven games. The ex-Cologne Müller confirmed his scoring qualities in Karlsruhe and by his side ex-national striker Hans Cieslarczyk was in good shape in the second half of the season . Coach Werner Roth also relied on a reinforced midfield with four players and mainly used Willi Dürrschnabel , Klaus Zaczyk , Horst Wild , Arthur Dobat and Sekularac. The possible uses were therefore limited for Strzelczyk, he could no longer find a place in the KSC formation.

After one season, his contract with Karlsruher SC was dissolved and he joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who played in the Regionalliga West, for the 1967/68 round . With the other newcomers such as goalkeeper Hans Benzler and the field players Klaus Görtz , Karl-Heinz Brücken , Willi Haag and Peter Rübenach , those responsible at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium tried the departures of Dieter Fern , Karl-Heinz Ripkens , Klaus Germann, Jörg Goldmann, To compensate Heinz Reinhard and Horst Wehrle and to initiate a change in personnel. Coach Theo Kirchberg started the association round on August 13, 1967 with a 2-1 home win against Viktoria Köln with left wing Strzelczyk. With 25: 9 points and a goal difference of 33:17 goals, Leverkusen surprisingly celebrated the autumn championship. All newcomers belonged to the circle of the regular line-up, which also included the players Leo Wilden , Günter Haarmann , Helmut Röhrig , Fredi Hennecken , Helmut Richert and Friedhelm Renno (substitute goalkeepers) from the old line . On January 27, 1968, Regionalliga table leader Leverkusen showed a good performance in the DFB Cup against the first in the Bundesliga table , 1. FC Nürnberg - 20 games with 30:10 points - in the 0: 2 defeat. The Leverkusen offensive with Helmut Brücken, Helmut Richert, Karl-Heinz Brücken Fredy Hennecken and Strzelczyk could not prevail against the "Club" defensive with Roland Wabra , Helmut Hilpert , Fritz Popp , Ludwig Müller , Ferdinand Wenauer and Horst Blankenburg .

The three-way battle for the 1967/68 championship was decided by goal difference after 34 match days. Equal points with 52:16 points each and one point ahead of RW Oberhausen, the Red-Blacks from the Ulrich Haberland Stadium decided the title race against RW Essen. Strzelczyk had scored seven goals in 33 appearances. In the subsequent promotion round, four more games followed with two goals, including the 1-1 equalizer on May 22nd against the later promoted Kickers Offenbach.

In the next five rounds, Leverkusen could no longer hold onto the top of the regional league, but Strzelczyk was always part of the regular line-up. In the 1972/73 season Bayer 04 suffered relegation under coach Gero Bisanz . With only 12:22 home points, Leverkusen was relegated to the amateur camp in 17th place. The last regional league game completed Strzelczyk on May 13, 1973 in a 4-1 home win against Alemannia Aachen. Team members included goalkeeper Dieter Ferner , field players Hans-Werner Marx, Willi Rehbach, Jürgen Papies , Klaus Röhrig, Peter Sichmann and Lothar Richter. He played a total of 187 regional league games for Bayer 04 Leverkusen from 1967 to 1973, scoring 26 goals.

The tax officer then played for several years at VfB Bottrop and SV Fortuna Bottrop, at Fortuna he not only showed his skills on the pitch, but also acted as a player-coach on the sidelines. This was followed by positions as a trainer at Sportfreunde Gladbeck and SV Zweckel . Günter Dohnau, who was sports editor for the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung in Bottrop for over 30 years, said of Strzelczyk: “He lived for football and was always very committed. The youngsters already had respect because he could show them everything on the ball ”.
