Career

The attacker Dieter Fern, who can be used in all positions, played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen from 1965 to 1967 in the West Regional Football League . After he had scored eight goals in 31 league games in his second round in 1966/67 in coach Theo Kirchberg's team, he accepted the offer from Kickers Offenbach and moved to the South Regional Football League . In his first season for the Kickers, 1967/68 , he was promoted to the Bundesliga . In the promotion round Fern and his teammates Rudolf Wimmer , Ferdinand Heidkamp , Egon Schmitt , Hermann Nuber , Roland Weida and Gerd Becker were able to relegate their old club Leverkusen to second place and thus achieve promotion. In his first Bundesliga season in 1968/69 he rose directly from the Bieberer Berg team under coach Paul Oßwald - Fern had scored a goal in 18 games.

After the descent, it went back to the west. He moved to the new season 1969/70 for VfL Bochum in the Regionalliga West. Fern celebrated two championships in 1970 and 1971 with coach Hermann Eppenhoff and teammates Werner Krämer and striker Hans Walitza . In 1971 , he was promoted to the Bundesliga. Bochum scored 23:11 goals and 14: 2 points in the promotion round and Fern had played all eight games and scored three goals. The storm peaks of the successful VfL-Elf were Hans-Werner Hartl , Walitza and Fern. With this attack, VfL made its debut on August 14, 1971 with a 1-0 home win against Eintracht Braunschweig in the Bundesliga. At the end of the round, the newcomer was in ninth place and Fern had scored two goals in 32 appearances. Surprisingly, he said goodbye at the end of the season, switched from professional to amateur and went to Union Salzgitter .

In the statistics he is led with 50 Bundesliga games (3 goals) and a total of 127 regional league games with 33 goals. In addition, there are 23 games in the promotion rounds to the Bundesliga with another five goals.
