history

Structural development

On May 1, 1902, the Barmer Men's Gymnastics Club was founded, which changed its name to TSK 02 Barmen after the Sportfreunde Wichlinghausen joined . This merged in 1945 with TuRa Barmen to form TSV Grün-Weiß Wuppertal . TuRa Barmen , on the other hand, went back to SV 09 Barmen , which was founded in 1909 and which joined Oberbarmer TV two years later . In 1923, this merged with SSV Rittershausen to form TuRa Barmen .

The TB Blombacher Bach founded in July 1889 has even older roots, which in 1921 merged with the TV Germania Laaken founded in 1909 to form the TB Laaken-Blombacherbach . On November 30, 1930, FC Kemna was founded, which in 1937 merged with TB Laaken-Blombacherbach to form TuS Grün-Weiß Blombacherbach . Finally, in 1994 TSV Grün-Weiß Wuppertal and TuS Grün-Weiß Blombacherbach merged to form TuS Grün-Weiß Wuppertal . In addition to soccer, the club also offers aroha , badminton , gymnastics , handball and hiking .

Soccer

The footballers achieved promotion to the district class in 1948 and, after relegation games against SVG Neuss-Weißenberg and VfB Rellinghausen, made it through to the state league , at that time the highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine. The green-whites were promptly runner-up behind the Cronenberger SC in the 1949/50 promotion season . The derbies of the two teams were followed by 8,000 and 14,000 spectators in the stadium at the zoo . In 1956, the team failed to qualify for the newly created association league Niederrhein as ninth in the table and had to relegate to the district class two years later.

In the 1958/59 season, the green-whites were even passed into the district class. After many years in the lower leagues, things went up again in the 2010s. In 2012, the green-whites rose to the district league and immediately became runner-up behind SV Union Velbert . The following 2013/14 season brought promotion to the regional league, but the following year they rose again.
