The SVG Neuss-Weissenberg (officially: Sportvereinigung Neuss-Weissenberg 1910 eV ) is a sports club from Neuss . The first soccer team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The club was founded in 1910 as a gymnastics and sports department of a Catholic youth club. This merged in 1923 with Sportfreunde in 1912 to form today's SVG Weissenberg. After three ascents in a row, the team reached the then second-rate district league in 1938. After the end of the war , the Neussers played in the 1946/47 season in the then first-class district league Linker Niederrhein , but were relegated to the district class at the end of the season. It was not until 1955 that he was promoted to the district class again. Eleven years later, the team rose to the Landesliga Niederrhein after Weissenberger had prevailed in playoffs against SC Kapellen-Erft and TuS Wickrath .

After fifth place in the 1969/70 season, the Neuss team had to go back down to the district class a year later. It was the first of three relegations in a row that brought the club into the 2nd district class - later called district league B. In 1981 the Weissenberger rose to the district league A, before returning to the district league six years later. The club then shuttled between the district league and the district league A. In the 2013/14 season, the Neussers slipped into the district league B and have been playing in the district league A since they were promoted again in 2014. In the 2019/20 season, the first men's team plays in the district league B, the second men's team in the district league C.

The club has a successful women's team, which rose to the state league in 1999 and five years later to the Niederrhein association league. In the 2005/06 season, the Weissenbergers reached fourth place. Three years later, he was relegated to the state league.
