Roland Weida (born December 11, 1943 , † November 29, 2007 ) was a German soccer player who was a member of the winning team of Kickers Offenbach on August 29, 1970 in Hanover in the DFB Cup final .
career
Youth and Regionalliga Südwest until 1967
Coming from the youth of FVgg 06 Weingarten - located in the northern district of Karlsruhe - the path of talent led early on to the youth department of Karlsruher SC . At the side of classmates Rolf Kahn and Horst Wild , Weida belonged to the top class in the A-youth and won the South German Junior Championship twice in a row in 1961 and 1962. He undertook after the change in the senior division, the first attempts in the higher-class football in the amateur team of KSC in the 1st Amateur League North Baden, where he in 1964 behind champions SV 98 Schwetzingen and before SV Sandhausen the runnercould celebrate. In addition, from 1962 to 1964, he was part of the senior division or Bundesliga squad at the time, but did not play any competitive games in these leagues. The talent of the attacking as well as defensive midfielder was not valued in the Karlsruhe Wildlife Park, so that he could realistically believe in a future improvement.
Weida therefore signed a contract with Ludwigshafener SC for the Southwest Football Regionalliga for the 1964/65 round . In the Red-Whites he was part of the regular line-up together with Dieter Sagray and Jürgen Wingert from the start of the round and played 28 league games with eleven goals. The LSC took eighth place. With his performance he had drawn the league competitor FK Pirmasens' attention and moved from Ludwigshafen to Pirmasens after just one lap.
Under the sporting direction of trainer Kurt Sommerlatt and with teammates Peter Jann, Alois Herbrik, Horst Brill, Heini Seebach, Dieter Weinkauff and Hilmar Weishaar , Weida won - he played 27 games for FKP in 1965/66 and scored eight goals - in his first Round in Pirmasens the championship in the Regionalliga Südwest and thus moved into the Bundesliga promotion round. Equal on points with promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf - both 8: 4 points - the Horeb team took second place in the promotion round against fellow competitors Hertha BSC and Kickers Offenbach . Weida had played for the FKP in all six games. In the second Pirmasens year the title could not be defended in the southwest, Weida completed 24 league games with six goals and finished sixth with his teammates Hugo Dausmann and Georg Jung . The light-footed midfielder - 1.68 m tall and 67 kg heavy - had attracted the interest of Kickers Offenbach and moved to the Bieberer Berg in the regional soccer league south for the 1967/68 round . From 1964 to 1967 Weida had played 79 games with 25 goals in the Südwest-Regionalliga.
Offenbach 1967 to 1972
In the five rounds 1967/68 to 1971/72 Roland Weida won the championship twice with the OFC in the Regionalliga Süd, was once runner-up, moved into the Bundesliga promotion round three times, got into the Bundesliga three times and won the highlight in 1970 Kickers Offenbach the DFB Cup. On the other hand, the relegations from the Bundesliga after only one season in 1969 and 1971 were less encouraging.
In his first year at the Kickers, 1967/68, the newcomer from Pirmasens played 31 games alongside Hermann Nuber , Gerd Becker , Ferdinand Heidkamp and Egon Schmitt and was the top scorer for coach Kurt Baluses ' team with 15 goals Vice-champions of the Regionalliga Süd moved into the Bundesliga promotion round. Against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, TuS Neuendorf, Tennis Borussia Berlin and Arminia Hannover, the Offenbach team - now supervised by Kurt Schreiner - prevailed and were promoted to the Bundesliga. Weida had played in seven games and scored one goal. Even in the first OFC year in the Bundesliga, 1968/69 under coach Paul Oßwald , the midfielder was part of the regular line-up with 29 appearances and six goals, but they could not prevent immediate relegation, although they have the same record at 23:11 points at home could like the surprising runner-up Alemannia Aachen . Due to the only five points in the away games, the zero point yield in the last three round games and the 0-3 final defeat on the 34th round day at Borussia Dortmund, Offenbach and midfielder Weida were relegated. With six goals, he ranked second in the internal goalscorer list behind Egon Schmitt with ten goals.
With coach "Čzik" Čajkovski , the championship was immediately won in the 1969/70 season in the Regionalliga Süd and again drafted into the Bundesliga promotion round. Weida had played 37 games in the league and scored ten goals. They immediately returned to the Bundesliga against VfL Bochum, Hertha Zehlendorf, VfL Wolfsburg and FK Pirmasens. Weida scored two goals in seven promotion games. The games in the DFB Cup 1969/70 were the sporting highlight . Via 1860 Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Nürnberg, the OFC's path led to the final on August 29, 1970 in Hanover against the favored 1. FC Cologne . Thanks to his efficient “special guard role ” against the Cologne playmaker Wolfgang Overath, Weida played a key role in Offenbach's 2-1 success.
The second Bundesliga round in 1970/71 was negatively influenced by unsuccessful determinations of the coach position despite the high mood of the cup success. First, the promotion coach Čajkovski was replaced by the ex-Dortmund Aki Schmidt before the start of the round, already after the eighth game day the Kickers board built on the qualities of Rudi Gutendorf , and from February 24, 1977, Kuno Klötzer again took over the management of the sport to exchange. In addition there were the "games sold" that were subsequently brought to light during the round. Roland Weida played 33 rounds and scored four goals. After the 2-4 defeat on Matchday 34, June 5, 1971, at 1. FC Cologne, the OFC was relegated 17th from the Bundesliga. On the final day, Bielefeld secured their league with a 1-0 win at Hertha BSC and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen with a 1-1 draw at Eintracht Braunschweig. Weida experienced the tragic defeat in Cologne with his teammates Walter Bechtold , Horst Gecks , Erwin Kremers , Helmut Kremers and Egon Schmitt after a 2-1 halftime lead.
In September / October 1970 he played in the two games in the European Cup Winners' Cup against Club Bruges with their stars Raoul Lambert and Rob Rensenbrink . At Bieberer Berg they had won a 2-1 victory, in the second leg the competition was ended by the 2-0 defeat in Bruges.
Horst-Gregorio Canellas , the president of Kickers Offenbach, strengthened the OFC after relegation with the players Fred-Werner Bockholt , Sigfried Held and Erwin Kostedde and the team with coach Kuno Klötzer won the championship in the South Regional Football League in 1971/72 . Also in the promotion round, Roland Weida - he had played 32 games in the Regionalliga and scored seven goals - and his teammates prevailed against rivals Rot-Weiss Essen, St. Pauli, Wacker 04 Berlin and Röchling Völklingen and thus celebrated the immediate Bundesliga -Return. Weida had played all eight games in the promotion round and scored five goals. After this triumph, he ended his career as a licensed footballer and signed for the 1972/73 round with the Hessen league club SpVgg 05 Bad Homburg , thus switching back to the amateur camp.
In the statistics, Weida is listed in the regional soccer league (southwest and south) with a total of 179 games and 57 goals, in the Bundesliga with 62 games and ten goals, and in the Bundesliga promotion rounds with 28 games and nine goals.

At the side of player- coach Wolfgang Solz and the experienced goalkeeper Karl Loweg , Roland Weida and the blue-whites from Bad Homburg landed in 1972/73 in the Hessen League behind champions FSV Frankfurt in second place and represented Hessen in the competition for the German amateur championship. After successes against Karlsruher FV, Bergedorf 85 and ESV Ingolstadt, Weida and his teammates made it into the final against the amateurs of 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In the Bieberer Berg stadium in Offenbach the final took place on June 30th in front of 7,000 spectators. With a goal by Helmut Reidel in the 78th minute, Bad Homburg won the amateur championship in 1973. From the 1974/75 round, Weida exercised the position of player-coach at the game association in the Sandelmühle stadium. For round 1975/76 he returned to the southern Offenbach district of Tempelsee and again took over as player-coach Gemaa Tempelsee.
In later years he was an active member of the traditional OFC team founded in 1987, which under the honorary president and namesake Waldemar Klein as the "Waldis" with many alumni - Hermann Nuber, Walter Bechtold, Manfred Erber, Siggi Gast, Kurt Geinzer, Oskar Lotz, Seppl Weilbächer - reminded of the old Offenbach football glamor and solidarity. As a functionary, he also held the presidency of the traditional team.
