Rainer Budde (born May 1, 1948 in Wuppertal - Barmen ) is a former German football player .

Career

youth

The talent of the attacker from Barmen already led him to the German national school team in 1963 . On May 24th in Heilbronn he was a member of the German team that won 3-1 goals in the traditional game between the students and England. Teammates were goalkeeper Norbert Nigbur , midfielder David Scheu and the two strikers Horst Köppel and Dieter Schollbach . On November 7, 1965, the small, agile and quick attacker made his debut in the youth national team . The friendly match was lost in Belgrade against Yugoslavia with 0-1 goals. The German attack was made up of the line-up with Köppel, Karl-Heinz Handschuh , Budde, Heinz Flohe and the Berlin winger Schollbach. In May 1966 he took part in the UEFA youth tournament with the DFB Juniors in Yugoslavia . He was used in the three group matches against the Netherlands (2-1), Scotland (1-1) and Spain (1-3).

Professional football

The striker Rainer Budde signed his first professional contract at Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1966 when he was 18 . Under coach Kuno Klötzer , he made eight Bundesliga appearances in 1966/67 and scored one goal. After the Düsseldorfers were relegated from the first Bundesliga , he moved to MSV Duisburg in 1967 .

Here he developed into a goalscorer in his first season and scored 16 goals under coach Gyula Lóránt and alongside teammates such as Heinz van Haaren , Horst Gecks , Erwin Kostedde , Djordje Pavlic and Horst Wild . His two goals on the 34th matchday of the 1970/71 season in a 2-0 win against FC Bayern Munich were historically significant, and they helped to decide the championship in Borussia Mönchengladbach's 4-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt.

After five years in the MSV jersey, he moved to FC Schalke 04 in 1972 , but was unable to build on his performance at Duisburg, mainly because he was overshadowed by players like Klaus Fischer and Erwin Kremers . He had his best season with Schalke in 1974/75 when he became a midfielder due to the competition in attack and was used 28 times this season.

At the end of the season he moved to the second division club Wuppertaler SV , where he ended his career in 1979. In total, Rainer Budde played 207 times in the Bundesliga and scored 63 goals. In the 2nd Bundesliga he played 112 games and scored 43 goals.
