The Langfjord is a branch of the Altafjord . It is located in the northern Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Troms og Finnmark about 25 km northwest of the city of Alta .

The Langfjord is about 31 km long and about 1 km wide. It extends from the main arm of the Altafjord in the east to the small settlement of Langfjordbotn in the west. The area around the fjord is largely uninhabited. The towns of Storsandnes and Gaddevaggi are located on the south bank, which is accessed from the well-developed European route 6 , both of which consist of only a few homesteads. The north bank can only be reached in the west via provincial road (Fylkesvei) 882. There are also existing only a few houses settlements Vuojatluckta , Dappeluakta and Tappeluft and the church built in 1891 Langfjord kapell . The eastern part of the north bank is not accessible for vehicles. There are several fish farms in the fjord .

During the Second World War , the Langfjord temporarily served as an anchorage for the German battleship Scharnhorst .

The entire length of the Langfjord is framed by mountains, some of which are over 1000 m high. It is considered to be one of the most picturesque landscapes in Northern Norway .
