European Figure Skating Championships 1948

The 40th European Figure Skating Championships took place in Prague in 1948 .

It was the last European championships in which non-Europeans were allowed. The American Richard Button and the Canadian Barbara Ann Scott thus remain the only non-European European champions in history. The continental titles were withheld from the best European single runners, the Austrian Eva Pawlik and the Swiss Hans Gerschwiler . That was the triggering moment for the ISU to allow participation in European championships, as is customary in other sports, from 1949 onwards exclusively to runners from Europe.
