The Russians Tatiana Wolossoshar and Maxim Trankow won their first European championship title on their joint EM debut. Her compatriots Vera Basarowa and Juri Larionow followed on the silver rank . The bronze medal also went to Russia, to the debutants Xenija Stolbowa and Fyodor Klimov .

The only possible challengers from Wolossoshar and Trankow, Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy, had to cancel their participation at short notice because of a hamstring by Savchenko. The Russian couple Juko Kawaguti and Alexander Smirnow were also absent because of an appendectomy on Smirnov.
