Samuel Contesti (born March 4, 1983 in Le Havre , Haute-Normandie ) is a former French figure skater who started for France and Italy in a single run .

Career

After disputes with the French figure skating federation, Contesti, who was on the podium at the French championships three times in a row from 2005 to 2007 , moved to the Italian federation after the 2006/2007 season and became Italian champion in 2008, 2009 and 2010. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 2009 he was surprisingly runner- up behind Brian Joubert and fifth at the subsequent World Championships in Los Angeles . He achieved this with a rousing freestyle to Ennio Morricone's theme music for Spiel mir das Lied von Tod . At his first Olympic Games he did not get past 18th place, but at the World Championships in Turin he continued his old performance and came in seventh.

In 2011, he finished the European Championship in sixth place and the World Championship in a disappointing eighteenth place.

At the 2012 World Cup , Contesti once again achieved a thrilling freestyle after a long time, which brought him to tenth place in the final score. To French chansons and a lively and tongue-in-cheek performance, he jumped solidly and without major mistakes, even if without a fourfold jump.

Contesti is trained by the Swiss Peter Grütter , who led Stéphane Lambiel to the world championship title. Contesti's father Yves played football in the French premier league. Contesti has two older sisters. In February 2007 he married Geraldine Zulini , who also trained him. The couple have two children.

In summer 2012, Contesti ended his figure skating career and now works as a figure skating coach.
