Chafik Besseghier (born October 11, 1989 in Grenoble ) is a French figure skater who starts in a single run .
Career
Besseghier, the son of Algerian immigrants, did not begin ice skating until the late age of 13. Just four years later, he took part in the French senior championships for the first time.
In 2011, Besseghier finally made it onto the podium in the national championships for the first time and thus qualified for his first European championship . On his debut, he finished twelfth. The following year, Besseghier became French runner-up and achieved ninth place, his best result to date at the European Championships . Due to the cancellations of Brian Joubert and Florent Amodio , Besseghier was also allowed to make his debut at World Championships in Saitama, Japan in 2014 . He finished it in ninth place thanks to personal bests in all segments.
For the next two years, Besseghier was unable to build on these achievements. He finished the 2015 and 2016 World Championships in 18th and 20th place, respectively. At the European Championships in 2015 and 2016 , he had to withdraw injured. However, Besseghier went into 2016 for the first time as a French champion .
