Philippe Christophe Luciene Candeloro (born February 17, 1972 in Courbevoie ) is a former French figure skater who started in a single run .

Philippe Candeloro was born in Courbevoie as the youngest of four children. His father Luigi was a bricklayer and a few years after Philippe's birth he built a house for the family in the Paris suburb of Colombes . At the age of seven, Candeloro began taking weekly figure skating lessons. During one of his first lessons, Andrée Brunet saw his potential. Natacha Dabadie became his choreographer .

1993 Candeloro was runner-up European champion behind Dmytro Dmytrenko and in front of his compatriot Éric Millot , behind whom he had finished second in the French championships. In the subsequent World Cup , he reached fifth place. The 1993/94 season was his most successful. He became French champion for the first time, Olympic knight in Lillehammer and vice-world champion behind Elvis Stojko . A year later he won his second and final world championship medal with bronze . In 1997 he became Vice European Champion for the second time . At the Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998 he was able to win bronze again.

Candeloro was not always technically at the highest level, but was praised for the artistic aspects. His freedoms were particularly noticeable, in which he played many famous characters from literature, film or history, for example Conan the Barbarian , Lucky Luke , the Godfather , Napoleon or D'Artagnan . Candeloro ended his amateur career in 1998 and became a professional at "Champions on Ice". Today he's trying to build a career as a sports journalist.

In 2011 he took part in the second season of the dance show Danse avec les stars and reached second place.

Candeloro has been married to ballet dancer Olivia Darmen since 1998 and lives in Carrieres Sur Seine . The couple has three daughters.
