history

Beginnings of the association (1911–1926)

The origins of football in Milspe originated from the Hertha 07 football club , which began playing football in Milspe and Homberge in the spring of 1907. Football developed in friendly games against clubs from Schwelm , Wuppertal , Gevelsberg and the surrounding area. In 1911 the desire arose to join the West German Game Association and bring about a merger of all clubs. In 1911 the club was founded by merging the clubs FC Hertha 07 and Preußen Milspe to form the Milspe sports club . The founding meeting took place on May 24, 1911 in Haus Hedtmann. Heinrich Behrenberg became the first president.

Due to the First World War , games could not take place for a long time because numerous players were drafted into the Wehrmacht and because the previously used field on Schulstrasse was converted to farmland under the pressure of the time. As a temporary makeshift, a pasture area was leased at Wuppermannshof. The Haus Rahlenbecke tavern served as a changing room. In 1920 the first self-built sports field was built on the Büttenberg . It was inaugurated on September 19, 1920 with a game between TuS Milspe and Union Haspe .

At the beginning of 1922 the association received statutes . In 1923 the newly introduced lawn sport game handball also found interest among the Milspern and a handball department was founded. The spatial situation on the Büttenberg sports field became, despite another square built there by the city, increasingly narrow, especially since several clubs had to share the spaces, so that the desire for their own, more centrally located sports facility arose.

Inauguration of Bremenplatz (1927–1932)

On April 24, 1927, a contract for the use of the sports ground, today's Bremenplatz, was signed with Caspar Kartenberg and construction began. The Hesterberg & Sons company acted as guarantor for the loan taken out by the association. After the available funds had been used up, further work was initially suspended. The ongoing economic crisis and other circumstances were the cause for the dissolution of the handball department. The inauguration of Bremenplatz took place on April 21, 1929. On that day the first game took place on Bremenplatz. The sports club Milspe lost the opening game against the then multiple South Westphalia champion Hagen 72 with 0: 1. In April 1932 the 1st team played against Fortuna Düsseldorf and also rose to the top division of the time, the South Westphalia district league.

Gymnastics and Sports Club Milspe (1933–1951)

With the merger of the Milspe sports club and the Rahlenbeck gymnastics club in the Heringhaus pub on November 2, 1933, the club was renamed the Milspe gymnastics and sports club . The activities of the association were very limited by the Second World War . During this time, more than 50 club members died in the war. After the war, the club became champions of the Hagen group and then Ennepe-Ruhr-Lenne champions with a 1-0 win against Union Haspe in front of 5000 spectators on September 22, 1946. Promotion games followed, in which the team prevailed and finally became the South Westphalia champions.

With that she had achieved membership in the then first-class Landesliga Westfalen . They played against well-known clubs like VfL Bochum , Westfalia Herne and FC Schalke 04 . The highlight of the 1946/47 season was the championship game against FC Schalke 04. The game took place on March 23, 1947 in front of 12,000 spectators at Bremenplatz and ended 2-2. On December 1, 1948, the TuS Milspe was registered as a registered association .

After the founding of the Oberliga West , TuS Milspe played in the second-class regional league from then on. In order to consolidate the performance level of the footballers, Elfried Leveringhaus from Sprockhövel was also hired a professional coach for the first time. On August 21, 1948, the then German soccer champions 1. FC Nuremberg were invited to Ennepetal for a test match. In front of 10,000 spectators, the Franks prevailed 2: 4. For the test match, 1. FC Nürnberg received 15 wagons of coal and, in addition, a waffle iron and a training suit for each player . After the end of the 1948/49 season , the club members decided against the contract player statute for financial reasons .

Renaming to TuS Ennepetal (1952–1973)

Shortly after the 50th anniversary with a gala evening in Haus Ennepetal, TuS Milspe was renamed in 1952 and has been under the name TuS Ennepetal from that point on until today. After a few years in the district league, the first team had to relegate to the 1st district class. This happened in the 1958/59 season.
