Alexander Thamm (born May 6, 1983 in Hattingen ) is a former German soccer player and today's head coach. His preferred position was central defense.

Career

Thamm began his career at VfL Bochum , where he was part of the professional squad from 2002. On March 22, 2003 he played his first of a total of three Bundesliga games. He came on as a substitute for Michael Bemben in the 85th minute in Bochum's game at VfL Wolfsburg . Before the 2006/07 season he moved to Preußen Münster and the following year to SpVgg Erkenschwick . After half a season there he went to FC Schalke 04 II . For the 2009/10 season he moved to Sportfreunde Lotte .

On July 5, 2010, he then moved to the NRW league club Rot-Weiss Essen. On August 13, 2010, Alexander Thamm scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 win against VfB Homberg with an overhead kick in the 89th minute . In September 2010, his goal was voted Goal of the Month for August in the sports show . On June 4, 2011, it was announced that Rot-Weiss Essen would not extend the contract with Alexander Thamm for sporting reasons.

At the presentation of the Rot Weiss Ahlen squad on July 3, 2011, Thamm was announced as a new addition and two days later he signed a contract for a year. There he held the post of captain until October 27, 2011. On December 23, 2011 it was announced that Thamm and Rot Weiss Ahlen were going their separate ways.

On January 7, 2012, the Westphalia division club SG Wattenscheid 09 announced on its homepage that Thamm had signed a contract until summer 2013. Thamm advanced to the Lohrheidekickers' top performers and regular players from the start. With the SG Wattenscheid 09 he was able to seal promotion to the Oberliga Westfalen in April 2012 . In April 2013, Thamm extended his contract to 2015 with Wattenscheid, with whom he was promoted to the Regionalliga West two months later .

On July 3, 2014, the upper division Wuppertaler SV announced that they had signed Thamm for two years. Thamm is also employed in the accounting department at the VfL Bochum office. For the 2015/16 season he was signed by the upper division TSV Marl-Hüls . After Thamm worked for the Marler team for two years as a player and later as a playing assistant coach in the club's U23, Thamm took over the coaching position in the Westfalenliga 2 at SV Horst-Emscher 08 in the summer of 2017 .
