Heiko Benno Weber (born June 26, 1965 in Thale ) is a former German soccer player and currently a soccer coach and team manager .
Athletic career
BSG, club and association stations
In 1988 Heiko Weber moved from BSG Stahl Thale , where he had gained his first experience in national GDR football as a teenager in 1983/84 in the second-class league , to FC Carl Zeiss Jena and played there until 1998. In the course of the merger of East- and West German football , the team from Jena made the leap from the upper league of the GDR , which no longer existed, to the second division of the reunified Germany in the summer of 1991 . In the second highest division of German football Weber came 148 times (36 goals) for Jena. In 1994/95 there were 33 games in the regional league for the Zeiss townspeople.
From 1998 to 1999 he played for the regional league team Preußen Münster , before returning shortly to Thuringia for the FCC, which had meanwhile also been relegated to the northeast variant of the third league level without him .
Coaching career
He then became the coach of FC Thuringia Weida . In 2003/04 he was the coach of the youth team at FC Carl Zeiss. In June 2004 he took over the first team in Jena. Under his leadership, the team achieved in 2005, the rise from the Oberliga North East (Season South) in the Regionalliga Nord and in 2006 the surprising walkover in the second Bundesliga. On April 11, 2007, Heiko Weber was released from Carl Zeiss Jena as the team was in acute danger of relegation.
In May 2007 he became coach of the regional league team Energie Cottbus II, where he signed a two-year contract. After Petrik Sander's leave of absence , he headed professional training as an interim coach and was then replaced by Bojan Prašnikar as the professional team coach.
From April 2008 to June 2009 he was team manager at FC Erzgebirge Aue . In addition, he began training as a football teacher at the Sports University in Cologne .
From July 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010 Weber returned to FC Carl Zeiss Jena, where he worked as a sports director. Due to his ongoing football teacher training, he initially worked part-time. Weber only successfully completed his training on April 1, 2010. On April 20, 2011, FC Carl Zeiss Jena announced that Weber would take over from Wolfgang Frank as coach with immediate effect . On October 30, 2011, FC Carl Zeiss Jena announced the dismissal of Weber after persistent failure. From July 2013 to June 2015 Weber was the coach of the upper division SSV Markranstädt . Since June 21, 2015 he has been the head coach of the regional league team ZFC Meuselwitz .
Trivia
On the 26th matchday of the last GDR Oberliga season ( NOFV Oberliga), held on May 25, 1991, he scored the goal for the 2-0 win for Jena and thus the historically last goal in the game at Energie Cottbus just before the end of the game the upper league .
Heiko Weber is often called "Benno" by his fans. This is actually his middle name too.
