Bojan Prašnikar (born February 3, 1953 in Šmartno ob Paki , SR Slovenia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav football player and current Slovenian football coach . From 2007 to 2009 he was the coach of the Bundesliga club Energie Cottbus . His daughter Lara Prašnikar has been under contract with Bundesliga club 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam since August 2016 .

Career as a player

The striker began his career in 1964 with NK Šmartno , who at that time, although Šmartno ob Paki had only 900 inhabitants, played in the Slovenian first division, a regional league of Yugoslavia. In the 1975/76 season he was top scorer, after which he moved to NK Olimpija Ljubljana , where he was able to win this award three more times.

After he returned to NK Šmartno in 1977, he acted there between 1979 and 1983 as a player-coach and led the club in 1981 to the Slovenian championship, winning the third Yugoslav league. He then played for a year at the lower class Austrian club SVG Bleiburg , where he also learned the German language.

Career as a coach

After his final career as a player Prašnikar trained between 1984 and 1989 NK Elkroj Mozirje and between 1989 and 1991 ZNK Ingrad Kladivar Celje .

Shortly after Slovenia's independence, Prašnikar became his country's first national coach. As the Slovenian team was only allowed to play friendly matches due to the fact that they were still not accepted into UEFA and FIFA , the coach resigned voluntarily in December 1993.

This was followed by engagements with Mura Murska Sobota (1991–1992) and Olimpija Ljubljana (1992–1994). With Olimpija he won two championships (1993, 1994) and a national cup victory (1993). He then trained Rudar Velenje (1994-1996) and from 1996 NK Maribor . Between January and July 1998 he also coached the Slovenian national team, but resigned due to the double burden.

During his first term in Maribor, during which he also won three championships (1997, 1998, 1999) and two national cups (1997, 1999), Prašnikar's greatest international success to date also falls. In 1999 they made it into the group stage of the UEFA Champions League , an achievement that no other Slovenian club has achieved so far (as of October 2007).

Between 2000 and 2001, the former striker trained again Olimpija Ljubljana, in the first half of the 2001/02 season ERA Šmartno . In the second half of the same season he was again under contract with NK Maribor, with whom he won the championship in 2002 before he took over the Slovenian national team for a third time.

However, since the team could not qualify for the European Championship in 2004 after participating in the European Championship and World Cup in 2000 and 2002 , he was terminated by the association. In the 2004/05 season he trained Mura Murska Sobota for the second time.

From July 2005 Prašnikar trained with the Cypriot club AEL Limassol for the first time a foreign club. However, he left this again in December of the same year to work at Primorje Ajdovščina .

From September 28, 2007 to May 31, 2009, Prašnikar was the coach of Energie Cottbus . His assistants were Guido Hoffmann and the Brazilian Franklin Bittencourt . Thanks to the class receipt with Energie Cottbus he was allowed to after the 2007-08 season in the Golden Book enroll the city. A year later Prašnikar and Cottbus parted after the bad performance of the team in the 2008/09 season .

In early April 2010 Prašnikar was introduced as the new coach of the Slovenian first division club NK Rudar Velenje . He got a contract there until the end of the season.

Legal proceedings

Slovenian journalist Mitja Lomovšek revealed that Prašnikar allegedly used players for money in Slovenia. During his time as coach of NK Maribor, Prašnikar is said to have asked for cash to use potential bench pressers in the starting XI. A trial against Lomovšek was lost for Prašnikar.

Prašnikar is said to have met with player agent Miran Vuk at a gas station in Tepanja (between the capital Ljubljana and Maribor) . It is said that a total of 10,000 Deutsche Mark changed hands there. Prašnikar is said to have asked Vuk for the sum to give the players Nastja Čeh and Marko Kmetec more playing time and to make them regular players. Prašnikar also lost in the 2nd instance and had to bear the costs of the proceedings. The court fully followed the testimony of the player advisor Miran Vuk and the players concerned, who confirmed the transfer of the money.
