Nogometna šola Mura , also known as NŠ Mura or Mura Murska Sobota , is a Slovenian football club from the city of Murska Sobota . Mura plays in the first Slovenian football league . Alongside NK Maribor and Olimpija Ljubljana, the traditional club is one of the most popular clubs in Slovenia.

history

The association was first founded in 1924 as SK Mura . The club was classified in the newly formed first Slovenian league in 1991 .

The club's greatest successes at national level were the two Slovenian Cup victories in 1995 and 2020. In 1994 Mura was vice- cup winner. The best placings in the Slovenian championship were in 1993/94 and second place in 1997/98 . So Mura stayed in the top division until 2005 until they had to file for bankruptcy in 2005 after a forced relegation.

The successor club ND Mura 05, founded in 2005, did not return to the first division until 2011. In the 2011/12 season, Mura qualified third in the Slovenian championship for the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League , where the club faced FK Baku in the first qualifying round . In the first leg a goalless draw was won away in Baku. In the second leg Mura made it into the next round with a 2-0 win. After CSKA Sofia and Arsenal Kiev were eliminated in the 2nd and 3rd round , Mura was only defeated in the playoffs by the big favorites Lazio Rome . In 2012/13 the club was able to save itself with ninth place in the relegation, but since Mura did not receive a license for the coming season, they had to relegate without the relegation games and shortly afterwards again file for bankruptcy.

The subsequently founded NŠ Mura achieved promotion to the second division in 2016/17 and the march back to the first class in 2017/18.
