René Klingbeil (born April 2, 1981 in East Berlin , GDR ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach. He is currently employed by FC Carl Zeiss Jena .
Player career
In his youth, Klingbeil first played for Marzahner SV and FC Berlin as well as Borussia Mönchengladbach , where he began his senior career in 2000. For the amateur team of Borussia he played for three years in the Oberliga Nordrhein .
In 2003 he moved to Hamburger SV . Klingbeil made his professional debut on October 23, 2004 in an away game at Borussia Dortmund . However, he could not recommend himself for a regular place in the first team. For HSV he played 51 times in the Bundesliga , six times in the UI Cup , five times in the UEFA Cup and twice in the UEFA Champions League . He prepared two goals, but did not score a goal himself.
In 2007 he moved to the Norwegian club Viking Stavanger , for whom he completed 15 games in the Tippeligaen and two games in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup against Vėtra Vilnius .
On August 26, 2008, Klingbeil moved to the German third division club FC Erzgebirge Aue , with whom he signed a contract until 2010. There he completed all competitive games over 90 minutes in his first season from the fifth match day and played mostly on the flanks, but also as a central defender. In the following year he was involved in all season games except for a yellow card suspension, which led Aue to second place in the table and thus into the 2nd Bundesliga. Even in the second-highest German division, he remained a cornerstone of the defense in the 2010/11 season , even if he was sent off for the first time in a competitive game on matchday 14 (yellow-red card). In June 2015, FC Erzgebirge Aue announced that Klingbeil's contract would not be extended, after which he went to FC Carl Zeiss Jena . After two years in Jena and promotion to the 3rd division , he ended his playing career.
Coaching career
After the end of his career, Klingbeil, who lives in Lößnitz in the Ore Mountains and holds a C coaching license , became the coach of the Sachsenligisten FC 1910 Lößnitz .
After two seasons in Lößnitz, where he narrowly missed promotion from the Sachsenliga in third and fourth place with the team, Klingbeil became the assistant coach of Rico Schmitt at his former club Carl Zeiss Jena at the beginning of October 2019 . After Schmitt was released from work in February 2020, he took on the role of coach on an interim basis. At the end of the month, Klingbeil was appointed team manager because his C license did not enable him to work as head coach on a permanent basis; He was succeeded in office by the Belgian Kenny Verhoene . Since June 2020 and the engagement of Dirk Kunert as a coach, he moved back to the position of assistant coach.
