Dirk Lottner (born March 4, 1972 in Cologne ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player . Most recently he was head coach of 1. FC Saarbrücken .

Player career

society

The Cologne-based footballer began his professional football career in 1992 at SC Fortuna Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga . After five years he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where he was unable to assert himself. He then played for six years in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Köln and was temporarily captain of the team. In 2004 he was retired due to alleged running deficits. Lottner then moved to MSV Duisburg , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga, but where he also only eke out a reserve.

Lottner still enjoys cult status among fans of 1. FC Köln. He became a figure of identification, not least because he was one of the few much-cited "types" in football and never made a secret of his emotional bond with FC. Posters and banners with Lottner's name can still be found in Cologne's fan curve. In particular, the audience will remember the left footer as the “master of the ball at rest”. His precise free kicks, which were not infrequently decisive for the game, often landed untenable in the net of the opposing goal. Weaknesses, such as a certain laziness and his uncommon vice for a professional footballer, smoking, were usually overlooked by the fans.

In May 2006 Lottner ended his active career. In the 2006/07 season he was assistant coach of 1. FC Köln II, where he occasionally intervened as a player in the action. A comeback as a professional, on which the Cologne tabloid press had speculated, rejected both Lottner himself and the club.

National team

For the U-21 selection Lottner played eight times, scoring one goal.

Trainer

After retiring as a player, he worked in the youth division of 1. FC Köln. He coached the U-17 team from 2007 to 2010. Since April 1, 2010 Lottner has been in possession of the coaching license of the German Football Association (DFB).

On October 24, 2010, he became assistant coach under Frank Schaefer after the previous head coach Zvonimir Soldo had been released.

From the 2011/12 season Lottner was the head coach of the U-21s of 1. FC Cologne. On April 22, 2013, he was released after a long streak of failures. From April 12, 2012 until the end of the season he was again assistant coach of the first team.

On April 16, 2014 Lottner took over the post of head coach at the third division Hansa Rostock . After the team had reached five points from four games under him, Lottner's contract was not extended at the end of the season.

Lottner has been running "Lottes Kicker - The Dirk Lottner Football School" since November 3rd, 2014.

For the 2016/17 season, Lottner took over the position of head coach at the southwest regional division 1. FC Saarbrücken . In 2018 he failed with Saarbrücken in the promotion games to the 3rd division at TSV 1860 Munich , a year later they became runner- up behind Waldhof Mannheim . At the beginning of December 2019, Lottner was dismissed after the lead at the top of the table had shrunk from eight to two points due to defeats against the promotion rivals SV Elversberg and TSV Steinbach Haiger . At the time of his dismissal, the club was also represented in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup after victories over the second division side Jahn Regensburg and the first division side 1. FC Köln .
