Kianz González-Froese (born April 16, 1996 in Havana , Cuba ) is a Canadian - Cuban football player . He is under contract with 1. FC Saarbrücken .

Career

Froese is one of two Cuban children of solar cooker developer, development worker, businessman and author Joe Froese from Saskatoon in Saskatchewan and the Cuban Esperanza González from Havana. He grew up near Winnipeg , Manitoba . There he started playing soccer at a young age. At times he lived with his grandparents and his aunt or with his family in Cuba, where his father made solar stoves with the support of Vilma Espín , chairman of the Federación de Mujeres Cubanas . Kianz Froese represented this country in 2011 at the CONCACAF U17 championship . In 2012, his family moved back to Brunkild , a town near Winnipeg. After briefly training with FC Edmonton , he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency in 2012 . He made his professional debut on May 7, 2014 when the Vancouver Whitecaps played against Toronto FC in the 2014 Canadian Championship . The following year, he won the 2015 Canadian Championship with his Major League Soccer team .

In 2013 he was appointed to the U17 of Canada , in 2014 to the U20 and 2015 to the senior national team . Froese scored a goal against the El Salvador national team at the CONCACAF U20 championship . For the A selection, he ran for the first time on October 14, 2015 in a game against Ghana .

In January 2017 Froese moved from the Whitecaps to Fortuna Düsseldorf , in whose second team he was used in the Regionalliga West . In 55 games he scored 16 goals there. On December 19, 2017, he signed a professional contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf dated June 30, 2019, but still only played in reserve.

In July 2019, the midfielder moved to the regional division 1. FC Saarbrücken .
