Ronny Kockel (born December 16, 1975 in Räckelwitz ) is a German football coach and former goalkeeper . He worked as an assistant coach to Eric van der Luer and was the head coach of the U19s at KFC Uerdingen 05 until the end of 2013.
Player career
In addition to numerous stations in Baden-Württemberg's amateur football, Kockel was in goal 19 times for the Stuttgarter Kickers in the Regionalliga Süd in 2001/02 , and in 2004/05 he guarded the goal of Arminia Bielefeld's second team in the Regionalliga Nord 25 times . He was also in the club's professional squad that season, but without playing a Bundesliga game. The following season he went abroad for the first time and signed a contract with the Cypriot first division club Olympiacos Nicosia . After a year there he went back to Germany, to Eintracht Trier in the Oberliga Südwest .
In January 2008, Kockel became the first German professional footballer in Iran . After half a year at Paykan Tehran , he had to leave the club in the summer after a law was passed that no foreign goalkeeper is allowed to play in the Iranian Pro League .
After Kockel left the country, the law was repealed. After six months without a club, Kockel signed a contract with the top division club VfR Mannheim in February 2009 . For the 2009/10 season he moved to the then Lower Rhine division KFC Uerdingen 05 and signed a two-year contract. From December 2009 he also worked in the marketing department of the KFC. Since he only sat on the bench in spring 2011, Kockel also played in the second team of KFC Uerdingen. In his first game for the team, Kockel, who was used as a field player, scored two goals (final score: 2-2).
Coaching career
In May 2012, Kockel and Erhan Albayrak were introduced as the new head coach in Uerdingen, replacing Jörg Jung . He was also head coach of the U19s at KFC Uerdingen since the 2011/2012 season. In the 2012/13 season, Kockel worked alongside Eric van der Luer as an assistant coach at KFC Uerdingen 05 . His employment contract there officially ends on January 31, 2014. From November 2015 to summer 2017, Ronny Kockel coached the regional league club DJK Teutonia St. Tönis , and in March 2018 he took over the A-youth team at VfR Fischeln .
