history

The association was founded in 1920. The club only gained supraregional importance in the 2000s when it was promoted to the Lower Rhine regional league in 2004 . There the club played several seasons above and just missed promotion. In 2009, the promotion to the sixth class Niederrheinliga could finally be celebrated. It is worth mentioning that VfR Fischeln played a home game against KFC Uerdingen 05 in this league in front of around 7500 spectators in the Grotenburg Stadium . The following derbies against this opponent, who also had Aílton in his ranks at a game , were attended by several thousand spectators. At the end of the 2010/11 season, the club was relegated back to the regional league, but it was possible to immediately return to the now created fifth-class Oberliga Niederrhein . After only one season there, they were relegated to the state league, but managed the championship in 2014 and immediately rose again to the Oberliga Niederrhein. There the club came in sixth place in the 2015/16 season and fourth place in 2016/17 . In 2018 it went back down to the national league.
