Günter Walz (born July 25, 1962 in Rastatt ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Günter Walz's home club is FC Rastatt 04 . There the defender and midfielder was appointed to the youth national team of the DFB. He made his debut on October 8, 1979 on the occasion of the Atlantic Cup in Las Palmas in the international match against Scotland in the DFB youth team. In the 1-1 draw, Ralf Loose acted as libero and Günter Thiele was in the storm. The talent from South Baden was used in four further games in the DFB youth until April 16, 1980 (international match against Switzerland). For the 1981/82 round, the 1.86 m tall defensive talent joined the amateur team of the Karlsruher SC in the Association League North Baden . In the 1982/83 season, the KSC amateurs celebrated the championship and promotion to the amateur league of Baden-Württemberg . Since the licensed eleven were fighting for relegation in the Bundesliga under coach Horst Franz at the same time , and from February 1, 1983, the previous assistant and amateur coach Lothar Strehlau replaced the hapless Franz as head coach, Walz also got 16 by the end of the round in 1982/83 Bundesliga appearances. The KSC was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 1983/84 season the KSC amateurs managed to stay up and the professionals managed to return to the Bundesliga as champions of the second division. Walz had scored a goal in three second division appearances.

But also in 1984/85 the blue-whites from the Wildpark Stadium proved to be too weak for the Bundesliga; they were relegated again to the 2nd division. Walz had scored a goal in twelve Bundesliga appearances. When coach Lothar Buchmann put together a new KSC team in the 1985/86 season in the 2nd Bundesliga - including with Srećko Bogdan - Walz made 25 (1 goal) second division appearances and the KSC landed in seventh place. Walz, however, moved to VfB Gaggenau for the 1986/87 round, which in the meantime belonged to the amateur league of Baden-Württemberg. From 1987 Walz played for a year for 1. FC Pforzheim .
