The SV Oberkirch is a sports club from the city of Oberkirch in Baden-Württemberg . The association has 590 members (as of 2019).

history

The club was founded in 1909 as the sports department of the 1861 Oberkirch gymnastics club . In 1921, the sports department had to leave the parent club as a prerequisite for membership in the German Football Association and has existed independently under the name SV Oberkirch ever since . After the founding of the South Baden Football Association in 1948, the SVO was allowed to start in the 2nd amateur league. In 1960, the sports club made it into what was then the highest amateur class, the 1st amateur league, from which today's Association League South Baden emerged . Also in 1960 the Südbadischer Pokal was won for the first time. SV Oberkirch was also able to celebrate its successes in the following years. In 1963 they won their second cup and in 1964 they were runner-up in the first amateur league. The greatest success in the club's history was recorded in 1966, when they won the championship title of the 1st amateur league and were thus entitled to the promotion games to the Regionalliga Süd , at that time the second highest division under the Bundesliga . In 1970 the club reached the final of the Südbadischer Pokal for the third time, but lost it to FC 07 Furtwangen . 14 years after being promoted to the 1st amateur league, Oberkirch was relegated to the 2nd amateur league in 1974 and relegated to the A class in the following year. Since then, the career of SV Oberkirch has been characterized by several promotions and relegations between the Association League and the District League. In 2005, winning the Offenburg District Cup ("Ortenau Cup") was another cup success. The club's last notable success to date was achieved in 2008 by winning the championship in the Landesliga Südbaden 1 . From 2011 to 2014 the club was active in the eight-class district league. Since then, he has played again in the Landesliga Südbaden 1. The sports club was only able to secure relegation from this in the 2016/17 season on the last match day and thus prevent a renewed relegation to the eighth division. In the following season, however, the renewed relegation to the district league could no longer be prevented.
