Oberschopfheim is part of the municipality of Friesenheim in the Ortenau district . The place has 2800 inhabitants and is located at the foot of the Black Forest in a valley of the clay hills of the foothills of the Upper Rhine Plain . On the outskirts of the village is the federal highway 3 , the federal highway 5 and the Rhine Valley Railway of Deutsche Bahn AG also run through the town . Oberschopfheim used to be a place characterized by agriculture and forestry. Today viticulture and maize cultivation still play a role as a sideline. The majority of the working population commutes to the neighboring cities of Offenburg and Lahr .

history

The place was first mentioned in 763 AD in a document from Bishop Heddo I of Strasbourg as Scopfheim. The name Scopfheim also referred to the area of ​​today's places Niederschopfheim and Diersburg in the municipality of Hohberg . But there was probably already a settlement in Roman times. Two Roman roads led across the Oberschopfheim area and there are Roman finds in the neighboring towns of Schuttern , Oberweier and Niederschopfheim. In Schuttern this was a Roman road station .

During the Middle Ages there was at least one feudal court in Oberschopfheim . 1016 gave Emperor Henry II. The Schuttern Abbey possessions in Scopfheim. The gentlemen von Geroldseck also played a special role. In the neighboring village of Diersburg, which was long connected to Oberschopfheim, there is a castle on a sideline of the Geroldsecker family. When the rule of Geroldseck was divided, Oberschopfheim remained in possession of both lines. In 1481, among other things, Oberschopfheim was pledged to the Margrave of Baden. In 1715 the village was destroyed in the War of the Spanish Succession.

On April 1, 1972, the independent municipality of Oberschopfheim was incorporated into the municipality of Friesenheim as part of the municipality reform.

Sports

The gymnastics club Oberschopfheim (TVO) played with its bounce ball division in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. A major sporting event touched Oberschopfheim as the Tour de France 2005 in the 8th stage. on the federal highway 3 passed the site. The event was extensively celebrated with a folk festival with hundreds of visitors.

The sports club Oberschopfheim has already welcomed selected teams from the Bundesliga clubs Karlsruher SC and SC Freiburg to the town for anniversaries .
