Right from the start, the focus is on promoting young people. Over 200 girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 18 are currently participating in the training program. With 15 competition teams, handball players are absolute top in South Baden. On this basis, 2 women's and 4 men's teams are established. Heavy athletics

history

In 1897, 9 sports-loving men founded the Waldkirch athletes' club in the "Rebstock" inn. Since there was no municipal gym at that time, the sporting activities took place in the “Alte Post” inn. During the two world wars, the athletes' club lost many of its sports comrades. Nevertheless, some steadfast people managed to get the club ship back on the road.

In 1946 the Waldkirch athletes' club joined the Waldkirch sports club. In the heavy athletics department of SV Waldkirch, weightlifting and lawn power sports were offered in addition to wrestling. Since then, the young people and active people have been able to fight for countless regional and national championship titles in wrestling and weightlifting. Many podiums were also achieved at national championships. A sporting highlight was the third place of the A youth team at the German team championships in 1988 in Schramberg. Some athletes were also on the international road for SV Waldkirch. In 1959, Franz Hais and Manfred Stork took part in the eliminations for the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.

In 1967 the heavy athletes celebrated their 70th anniversary. On this occasion, a friendship fight took place in the Waldkirch town hall, in which the Schifferstadt team with the Olympian Paul Neff and the legendary “crane of Schifferstadt” Wilfried Dietrich also took part.

The heavy athletics department of SV Waldkirch has hosted countless national and German championships. Since 2003, SV Waldkirch and ASV Kollnau have been wrestling together in the RG Waldkirch-Kollnau wrestling community. The club competed in the Baden-Württemberg regional league for several years. This is currently the third highest performance class in Germany.
