Hayrettin Demirbaş (born June 26, 1963 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football goalkeeper and today's coach. He played for Altay Izmir and Galatasaray Istanbul for many years .

Club career

Demirbaş started playing football in the Ayvalık district near Küçükyolspor . At the age of 14 he went to the youth of Altay Izmir . In the 1980/91 season Demirbaş was appointed to the 1st team. During his time at Altay he rose with the team twice in the Süper Lig (1981/82 & 1983/84). The 1985/86 season played the goalkeeper for Afyonspor and for the 1986/87 season Demirbaş moved to the traditional club Galatasaray Istanbul . He made his debut for Galatasaray in the Süper Lig on March 15, 1987 against Denizlispor . In the same season he became Turkish football champion for the first time in his career. Demirbaş was second goalkeeper behind Yugoslav Zoran Simović for four years . From the 1990/91 season he was the goalkeeper.

After an encounter against Baník Ostrava in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1991/92 Demirbaş got the nickname Panther of Ostrava due to his good performance after the game . Due to differences between him and his coach Reinhard Saftig Demirbaş left Galatasaray on loan in the 1994/95 season and played for Vanspor . In 1995/96 he returned as expected, but his regular seat had been handed over to Brad Friedel . In the 1996/97 season he was again a regular goalkeeper, but he saw himself exposed to severe criticism after being eliminated from the European Cup Winners' Cup against Paris Saint-Germain . Demirbaş was named by the media as the main person responsible for the departure. After Galatasaray was eliminated in the Turkish Cup after 16:17 on penalties against Gençlerbirliği Ankara , Hayrettin Demirbaş asked coach Fatih Terim for his release. The trigger for this action was that he had not saved a penalty.

In the second half of the season he played for Zeytinburnuspor and rose with the team in the 2nd division. Demirbaş ended his career at Ağrıspor .

Return after 10 years

Hayrettin Demirbaş returned ten years after retiring at the age of 46. He played a short time for the amateur team 51 Niğdespor . The former goalkeeper was asked by coach Cevdet Sancaklı to find a goalkeeper for his team. After the search was unsuccessful, an offer was made to him himself. Hayrettin Demirbaş previously proved that it was enough for the amateur league on a television program called Devler Ligi , produced by Acun Ilıcalı . Former Turkish football players such as Tanju Çolak , Ergün Penbe and Hasan Şaş played there .

National team

Hayrettin Demirbaş made 18 appearances for Turkey . He made his debut on May 1, 1991 against England .

Coaching career

Demirbaşs first coaching activity was in the 2002/03 season as a goalkeeping coach at Bucaspor . A season later he was promoted to head coach. This was followed by engagements at Erzurumspor , Nazilli Belediyespor , Bingölspor , Yeni Bornovaspor .

His last job for the time being was Demirbaş from 2011 to 2012 at Manisaspor as a goalkeeping coach.
