Elvir Bolić (born October 10, 1971 in Zenica ; in Turkey also Elvir Boliç) is a former Yugoslav or Bosnian-Herzegovinian football player and current coach .

Player career

society

The striker began his professional career in his hometown with NK Čelik Zenica in July 1988. In July 1991 he moved to FK Red Star Belgrade . He stayed there for a season before moving to Turkey for Galatasaray Istanbul in July 1992 . At Galatasaray he only stayed until the end of 1992. In January 1993 he moved to Gaziantepspor where he played until 1995. In the 1995/1996 season he moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul . From there he went to Spain to Rayo Vallecano for 3 years in 2000 . In 2003 he came back to Turkey and signed a contract with İstanbulspor . At the club, however, he only played a year. He moved to Gençlerbirliği Ankara , where he stayed with Galatasaray for only 5 months until the end of the year, as in 1992, but played two games in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup . He then joined Malatyaspor in January 2005 . From there it went to Croatia to the HNK Rijeka in the 2006/2007 season .

National team

Bolić played a total of 52 games for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national football team . He scored a total of 22 goals for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian selection team. He was the record scorer for Bosnia and Herzegovina until Edin Džeko replaced him in 2012. He played his first international match on September 1, 1996 against Greece .

Coaching career

From January 5, 2008 to May 17, 2008 Bolić was assistant coach of the A national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the then head coach Meho Kodro was dismissed, Bolić was no longer employed.

Trivia

  • With his goal to the 1-0 away win of his team Fenerbahçe Istanbul against reigning English champions Manchester United in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League , he ended the 40-year invincibility of the Red Devils at European Cup home games.
  • In addition to Bosnian citizenship, Bolić also has Turkish citizenship and therefore played in the Turkish league under a local license.
