Juozas Kaunas

Juozas Kaunas (born June 13, 1870 in Pavilktiniai, Sintautai district, Šakiai district , † August 28, 1936 in Jonava , Lithuania ) was a Lithuanian teacher and politician, first mayor of Jonava.

Life

In 1890 he graduated from the Veiveriai teacher training college and then studied in Palestine , Turkey and Russia . Until 1915 taught in Ingavangys , Klebiškis ( Marijampolė district ), Jaminai, Štabinas ( Augustavas district ) and in Suvalkai . In 1919 he became head of a department at the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania , from 1921 to 1924 he was assistant to the director in the department for municipalities, from 1924 to 1926 chief auditor. From 1926 to 1936 he was elected mayor of Jonava.

His grave is in the Skaruliai cemetery ( Jonava Rajongemeinde ).
