Mindaugas Sinkevičius
Mindaugas Sinkevičius (born June 20, 1984 in Jonava ) is a Lithuanian social democratic politician , from 2011 to 2016 and since April 2019 mayor of the Jonava district . From December 2016 to October 2017 he was Lithuania's Minister of Economic Affairs and from 2008 to 2011 Vice Mayor of Jonava.
education and profession
After the sixth middle school Jonava (now Raimundas-Samulevičius -Hauptschule) in Rimkai and graduating from high school in 2003 at the high school in the Old Town Jonava graduated Mindaugas Sinkevičius 2007, the bachelor of management at the University of Vilnius , from 2004 to 2008, the correspondence course, the Bachelor of Law at from Mykolas-Romer University and in 2009 the master’s degree at ISM University of Management and Economics in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . Municipal level
In the local elections in Lithuania in 2007 , he became a councilor in his home region. From 2007 to December 2016 Mindaugas Sinkevičius was a member of the council and from 2008 to 2009 the deputy mayor of the Jonava district (youngest deputy mayor in Lithuania).
In the local elections in Lithuania in 2011 , Sinkevičius was re-elected as a council member. In the council he became mayor of the Rajongemeinde on the basis of a coalition agreement with the liberal LRLS party. In 2014, Sinkevičius was named Mayor of the Year according to a national sociological survey. In March 2015 he was elected mayor of the Jonava Rajonggemeinde in the direct elections of the Lithuanian mayors with a majority of 71.20% in the first ballot.
In the 2019 local elections in Lithuania , Sinkevičius was LSDP leader in the Jonava constituency , but fell to 2nd place in his party's list due to the rank election , as his party comrade Eugenijus Sabutis , the former Jonava mayor, opposed Sinkevičius, by even overtaking him with 366 votes. Since April 11, 2019, Sinkevičius has been a member of the council and mayor of the Jonava Rajongemeinde (on March 3, 2019, he was selected with a majority of 57.36% in the first ballot, with 14% fewer votes than in 2015).
National level
From December 13, 2016 to October 12, 2017, Mindaugas Sinkevičius was Lithuania's Minister of Economic Affairs in the Skvernelis cabinet . He resigned in September 2017 after the LSDP party council decided that the party should end the ruling coalition with the LVŽS and renounce leading positions in parliament and the government of Lithuania . His father Rimantas Sinkevičius , a member of parliament, voted (like other parliamentary groups) for the continuation of the governing coalition and thus against the will of the party.
Party career
Mindaugas Sinkevičius has been a member since 2004 and chairwoman of the Jonava section of the Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija (LSDP) since 2013 . Since 2015 he has been a board member and deputy chairman of the LSDP (initially deputy of Algirdas Butkevičius and since April 2017 of Gintautas Paluckas ). Sinkevičius is also a member of the Lietuvos socialdemokratinio jaunimo sąjunga . In 2019, Sinkevičius declined to participate in LSDP chairmanship elections.
family
His father Rimantas Sinkevičius (* 1952) is a social democratic politician, Seimas member (2008–2020), former Lithuanian transport minister (2012–2016), chemical engineer and manager of the chemical company AB Achema (1980–2008).
His mother, Ligita Sinkevičienė, a former engineer at the AB Achema plant , works for the Environment Agency at the Ministry of the Environment in Lithuania .
His sister Rūta Jasilionė (* 1987, nee Sinkevičiūtė ) is a lawyer and has been working as a legal assistant at the commercial law firm "Valiūnas ir partneriai Ellex " in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius since 2014 .
Mindaugas Sinkevičius has been married since May 2017. His wife is Aistė Sinkevičienė (* 1989, née Plūkaitė ), an interior designer from Kaunas.
Sinkevičius lives with his family in his hometown Jonava .
